The kingdom of Petra is ravaged by a destructive black dragon. To secure military aid via political marriage, King George favours his eldest daughter Josephine by betrothing her to the heir of a wealthy empire, while tricking his younger daughter Eleanor into an unwanted marriage with Avalon—a realm devastated by constant dragon attacks. On her journey, Eleanor is ambushed by bandits yet unexpectedly saved by the mysterious black dragon. Warmly welcomed in Avalon, she falls for the gentle Prince Edward, who secretly grows dragon scales and transforms when overcome by strong emotions. During a royal birthday banquet back in Petra, the jealous Josephine tries repeatedly to expose Edward’s dragon identity. After Edward is severely wounded from a kingdom-wide dragon hunt, Eleanor stands firmly by his side. The pair travel into an enchanted misty forest to seek the witch who cursed Edward. Powered by Eleanor’s sincere love, Edward breaks his ancient curse, and the two finally tie the knot in a blissful wedding.
